Archaeology Online Event for 8-16 year olds

Totally new to archaeology or the next Alice Roberts?

Want to find out more about archaeology and what real archaeologists do?

Aged 8-16 years old?

No problem! Join the HS2 archaeologists online as they cover the basics, meet archaeologists and explore a huge dig at Coleshill, a town to the north east of Birmingham.

Archaeologists have discovered artefacts and features showing thousands of years of occupation at Coleshill. These include the remains of a Bronze Age burnt mound, Iron Age roundhouses, Roman period field systems and a moated medieval manor house with Elizabethan gardens.

In this free online session you can share what you already know about archaeology and ask questions as they chat through the different stages of the Coleshill dig, including discoveries from the site and what they tell us about how people lived during the different Ages and how the area has changed over thousands of years.

The group size will be kept small (max 15), so that there is plenty of time to answer all your questions and hear your thoughts.

When is it and how do I sign-up?

When: Thursday 8th April, 10.00 am – 12.00 pm, with a 20 minute break

Where: Online via Zoom Sign Up Here

PLEASE NOTE:

Parental consent is needed to register.

Parents/guardians are responsible for supervising children during the session but should not appear on the screen for safeguarding purposes.

This session is being led by Wessex Archaeology supported by LM, HS2 and the Council of British Archaeology.

While you’re here…

The Coleshill site is being excavated because it’s on the route of High Speed Two (HS2). The UK’s largest archaeology programme is taking place along this route and has unearthed exciting discoveries.

We would love to know if you are interested in joining regular online sessions for 8 – 16 year olds, exploring the archaeology of HS2 or the archaeology of the Birmingham/Warwickshire area in general.

Sounds good to you?

If you are interested in joining regular online sessions, we recommend coming along to this session.

If you are 18 or over and would like to be involved in supporting the running of the group contact engagement@wessexarch.co.uk.

If you have a question about HS2 or our works, please contact our HS2 Helpdesk team on 08081 434 434 or email hs2enquiries@hs2.org.uk.
