HS2 utility works in Warwickshire

Initial work on HS2 is underway at sites across Warwickshire. This includes the diversion of existing utilities, such as underground gas pipes and overhead power cables. This work is preparing the way for our main construction work in the future.

It is an essential part of delivering HS2 and we would like to share some details with you about how this has been going.

Here are some of the highlights in Warwickshire:

Offchurch:

National Grid Gas has successfully diverted a gas main in Offchurch. The 610m diversion runs under the route of the railway and will enable our main works contractors to safely build across the pipeline into a deep excavation. One of the most complex activities included lifting 110m of the new heavy steel pipe. The total weight of this complex lift was over 35 tonnes.

Chattle Hill:

There are several significant utility diversions near to each other, including high voltage overhead power cables, high-pressure gas mains and fuel pipelines, as well as sewer and water main pipes. Cadent Gas is currently constructing a compound at Chattle Hill, which is the main compound for the construction of five gas pipeline diversions taking place near Coleshill in 2019 and 2020.

Coleshill:

We’ve previously notified you about the demolition of the Auria building being carried out by LM and since then there has been significant progress with the demolition works. This was an extension built onto the main building and was a large open warehouse space. These works are critical to enable future utilities diversions and the construction of the main HS2 line.

During all of these utilities works, as well as our overall construction programme, we’re committed to being a good neighbour to local communities. This includes keeping local people informed about what we are doing, when we’re doing it, and how we’re minimising the impact on their area. We’ll continue to keep anyone affected by our work up-to-date and we are able to answer any questions or concerns, through our 24/7 helpline.

If you'd like to talk to us about our works you can call our freephone helpdesk on 08081 434 434 .
