Kingsbury Road Railhead Site update – change to plans for use of the site

We can confirm that following further design work by our main works contractors, Kingsbury Road Railhead Site will no longer be used as a railhead and will instead be used to locate a main works construction compound. The compound will be used for engineering, planning and construction delivery activities, as well as an office base for our staff.

We’ve been able to make this change due to the latest stage of design work for the new railway, where our specification for the rail track system was changed. We will be using a system known as ‘slabtrack’ which effectively removes the requirement for a railhead at this site.

Since being appointed, our contractors along the entire route have been working to identify opportunities which will allow us to deliver our programme of works efficiently and reduce impacts where possible, while remaining within the parameters of the HS2 Phase One Act. The land area used will fall within the limits of land acquired or used (LLAU), meaning the compound will not be larger than the site which was originally planned. The changes are permissible under the existing Act.

We will be continuing to engage the local community as the plans for the compound progress. Further information will be provided on this site.

If you have any questions about HS2 or our works, please contact our HS2 Helpdesk team on 08081 434 434 or email hs2enquiries@hs2.org.uk .
