Notice of archaeology works from July alongside the Kenilworth Road

Before we begin to build the new railway and the Interchange Station, the surrounding area will become part of the largest archaeology programme ever undertaken in the UK. Across the HS2 route, more than 1,000 archaeologists, scientists and conservators are revealing the everyday lives of the people and their communities from the last 10,000 years.

For more information about what we have uncovered so far, visit HS2 archaeology .

Throughout the year, we will be holding online archaeology events to share details of the exciting finds from across the line of route. Subscribe to this website to receive email alerts about our upcoming events, including how to register for tickets.

From Monday 6 July, we’ll begin digging trenches alongside the Kenilworth Road on HS2 land. We aim to conclude our trenching in this area on Friday 24 July, but if our archaeology team find anything of interest, our works may be extended. To safely carry out these works, from Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July, we’ll close a lay-by adjacent to our trenching site alongside the Kenilworth Road.

Our working hours will be 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, but our contractors may be on site up to an hour before and after those times.

We’ll dig a number of trenches per day, and explore each for a few days, before filling them back in if nothing is discovered. We’ll work in one specific area at a time in the area highlighted on the map below.

If you have a question about HS2 or our works, please contact our HS2 Helpdesk team on 08081 434 434 or email hs2enquiries@hs2.org.uk .
