Update on Kenilworth Greenway and work in Burton Green

We recently published information about upcoming work for the Kenilworth Greenway between Berkswell and Burton Green. We received feedback from local communities about the impacts of road closures at the junction of Hob Lane, Cromwell Lane and Red Lane in Burton Green needed to finish building the temporary diversion of the Greenway.

We along with our early works contractor, the Laing O’Rourke and Murphy (LM) joint venture, are always mindful of the potential impacts of the railway and associated Greenway works on Burton Green, having engaged with council and community representatives over the past three years to incorporate local feedback in the design of the temporary Greenway. In recent months – and particularly this week – we’ve engaged with directly-affected residents, businesses, councils and community representatives to fully understand local needs and requests for road access and commuting. We appreciate the time and effort people have given to provide us with feedback and share their local knowledge.

We are proceeding with road closures at the junction from Monday 24 August as outlined in this notice , as we will be working in the middle of roads and under roads for a number of weeks from 24 August. Over the coming weeks, we’ll work closely with affected stakeholders and community representatives to update them on our progress as we build the temporary Greenway as quickly and as safely as possible. This will include reviewing opportunities to potentially switch to other forms of traffic management later this year. We are also looking into working extended shifts – possibly working 7 days a week – in Burton Green to try and reduce the overall amount of time needed to build the temporary Greenway. These options are subject to approvals, consents, site conditions, and new ways of working amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

We also received feedback about keeping a tree on Hob Lane, Burton Green, that is due to be removed to build a temporary Greenway crossing point. Road standards, and health and safety standards, mean we have to remove the tree to build the temporary Greenway and redevelop the junction of Hob, Cromwell and Red Lanes. The constraints at this location mean that we anticipate the tree needs to be removed under all feasible design options to meet the standards. However, we are finalising a number of surveys to confirm this position and will communicate the outcome as soon as we can.

We encourage local communities to keep an eye on the latest news section of the HS2 in Warwickshire website, and sign up to receive news alerts on upcoming work by email. We’ll be holding regular reviews of our work in Burton Green, and we’ll communicate any potential changes to communities through this website and posting notices to directly-affected residents.
