Update on the re-opening of A425 Leamington Road, Southam

As part of our works to safely excavate a 15-metre-deep trench and construct the 'cut-and-cover' section of the Long Itchington Wood Tunnel, we closed a section of the A425 Leamington Road near Southam in October 2020.

The work has been delivered by HS2’s main works contractor for the area, Balfour Beatty Vinci (BBV). A significant amount of progress has been made at the site, enabling the road to be re-opened this Summer as originally planned. Our target is to re-open the A425 by early August, subject to the receipt of necessary consents, and we will confirm a specific re-opening date in July.

BBV will continue to work in the area and during 2022 will create a temporary diversion road around the site of the Long Itchington Wood tunnel south portal. The diversion road will allow BBV to complete the construction of the remainder of the “cut and cover” section of the tunnel that will sit under the A425.

To find out more about the re-opening of the road and the future work, please register for our webinar on 15 June from 18.00 to 20.00. During this online engagement event we will be available to answer your questions and provide a background to the planned re-opening of the A425 Leamington Road. Registration details for the webinar will be published here shortly.

Other HS2 related highway impacts in the vicinity of the A425

There will be other HS2 related highway works close to the A425. These include:

Closure of Welsh Road – 5 and 6 June 2021

LM will be closing Welsh Road from 08.00 on Saturday 5 June until 17.00 on Sunday 6 June. The reason for the closures is to create a safe working zone whilst we carry out resurfacing works, remove some fencing and move a road sign around the access point at the HS2 compound.

Access will still be maintained for households and businesses along the road. All works are subject to consent, site and weather conditions. Dates may also be subject to change. Please register at hs2inwarwickshire.co.uk to receive updates about works in your area and for up-to-date traffic information go to one.network . Further information on upcoming HS2 highway related works in the vicinity of the A425 will be published here.
