Update on the temporary diversion of the Kenilworth Greenway

This update on the temporary diversion of the Kenilworth Greenway – overseen by the Laing O’Rourke and Murphy (LM) enabling works joint venture on behalf of High Speed Two (HS2) – provides information on work due to take place in January and February 2021.

Traffic management update for temporary Greenway in Burton Green

LM has now lifted all road closures in Burton Green. There won’t be any traffic management on roads over the Christmas/New Year break from 19 December to 3 January, as LM won’t be at work during this period.

We’re expecting to need temporary traffic lights on Red Lane in January and potentially early February to create safe working zones while we finish the Red Lane crossing for the temporary Greenway.

We also need to finish a small amount of work on Hob Lane, for which we may need temporary traffic lights for a few days during off peak times in January.

Junction lights, crossings and street lighting

The new streetlights in Burton Green are to be switched on once agreements have been finalised with electricity suppliers. The signals controlling the operation of the new junction, and the crossings over Hob and Red Lanes, are due to be switched on in late January or early February subject to consents and approvals from local authorities.

Preparing to open the temporary Greenway

LM is working as quickly and as safely as possible to finish the temporary Greenway and open it to the public. We will be installing fences and signs around the temporary Greenway, and a small amount of hoarding at specific locations next to properties in Burton Green.

We now expect to open the temporary Greenway in February, subject to consents and approvals. If we can, we’ll open some sections earlier than others to provide more walking and cycling options to local communities. In the meantime, LM will continue to monitor and maintain the interim paths we’ve set up to help people move around the closed section of the existing Kenilworth Greenway.
