Water Orton Viaducts

The viaducts will be located in Water Orton, east of the M42 and Lichfield Road, and will carry the new HS2 track over the River Tame and a network of existing transport links, including the Birmingham-Peterborough line, running between Water Orton and Coleshill Parkway Stations.

The section of the HS2 route where the two Water Orton viaducts are located is known as the Delta Junction, a triangular section of line where the new railway curves west towards Birmingham and runs north towards Crewe and beyond.

In spring 2020, we showed you the latest designs of the viaducts and asked for your views. Since then, the design has been developed to reflect your views on the concrete finish and landscaping of the viaducts. You can find out more about the updated designs by:

Water Orton Viaducts - a Key Design Element

We've classified certain structures or parts of the railway as “Key Design Elements” (KDE), including the Water Orton viaducts. This means it is important for us to involve the local community in their design.

You can find a full list of the Key Design Elements in Table 1 of HS2 Information Paper D1: Design policy.

The Water Orton viaducts are significant structures in the local area and cross other major transport links. We want them to respect their surroundings and the local area while doing their job effectively and lasting for 120 years.
